Bil’in, Palestinian Occupied Territories, July 29th 2005
Israeli Border Police violently disperse peaceful demonstrators. Four Israeli and one Irish woman arrested, two Palestinians and three Israelis injured.
Today, July 29th, at around 1.00 p.m., a nonviolent group of demonstrators (Palestinians, Israelis and Internationals) has tried to reach the Separation Wall building yard close to the Palestinian village of Bil’in (Ramallah area).
They were carrying a symbolic polystyrene white and orange house, to protest against the displacement of Gaza’s settlers to West Bank settlements after the disengagement of next August.
Every demonstrator was wearing a notice saying “I am Abdallah Abu Rahma in different languages, to show solidarity with Abdallah Abu Rahma, arrested from the Israeli Police during the last demonstration against the Wall in Bil’in.
Abdallah Abu Rahma, who was peacefully demonstrating, has been beaten before being arrested. Up to July 28th Haaretz newspaper, “the videotape, which Haaretz also obtained, clearly shows the Border policemen violently attacking the man and kicking him after they had subdued him and held him prone on the ground (…) these demonstrations, defined by participants as peaceful, frequently turn into violent clashes with the Border Police’s company 22, assigned to disperse the demonstrations. An investigation by Haaretz has found that policemen from that company have made false accusations against demonstrators and even made arrests on the basis of those accusationsâ€?. (…)
